2023/24 Annual Report: A Year of Growth, Resilience, and Vision
At Napier Family Centre, we’re proud to present our 2023/24 Annual Report, reflecting a year of service and commitment to our community and where we celebrated 40 years of empowering whānau. We also took significant strides toward our future vision.
Last year also marked a milestone in our journey as we celebrated four decades of service – a significant milestone in supporting local whānau and communities. We also made progress on our strategic pou, expanded our service delivery from Wairoa to Waipukurau and continued to adapt and evolve to the changing needs of the Hawke’s Bay Community.
Responding to the ongoing mental health needs across Te Matau-a-Māui, we expanded our counselling services, offering free sessions for those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and launching new programmes, including in-school counselling, group-based therapy and new modalities of mental health support.
Last year, we provided 476 free counselling sessions specifically for cyclone-impacted whānau and delivered 200 group counselling sessions, including for school groups.
Financial stress remained a critical issue for many in our community, with our Financial Mentors delivering 2,035 sessions across the year, a 52% increase from the previous year, helping whānau regain control of their finances. With 524 kai parcels distributed (a 48% increase), we addressed both immediate needs and long-term financial well-being.
Our Whānau Education programmes saw growing demand, with 93 adults and 99 tamariki and rangatahi supported through a variety of programmes throughout the year. This represents a 43% increase in new clients, reflecting the growing need for accessible family support services in the region.
In total, we supported 2,497 whānau, well beyond our government contracts, thanks to the generous contributions from philanthropic funders, donations, and grants. This support allowed us to serve our community with flexibility and innovation, ensuring that we could meet evolving needs.
As we look ahead, we are excited about the changes on the horizon in 2025. One of the most significant is our upcoming rebrand, where we will refresh our name and identity to reflect the diverse needs and values of the whānau we serve. This transformation will ensure we remain connected and relevant as we continue to evolve with our community.
We are deeply grateful to our funders, donors, staff, volunteers, and partners. Your contributions enable us to keep doing our valuable mahi.
