We’re excited to share that the Central Hawke’s Bay Toy Library, now part of Napier Family Centre (NFC) and Bright Futures in Waipukurau, had a fantastic start with our grand opening on Saturday. It was wonderful to see so many local whānau and tamariki join us to celebrate this new beginning.

In just two hours, we had over 70 toys hired out by new members eager to enjoy our wide selection of toys. Tamariki had a great time playing in our space—making giant bubbles, getting their faces painted, and exploring all the toys we have available.

As Kerry Henderson, our CEO, said, “We are happy to see the Toy Library reopen and to offer this service to the Central Hawke’s Bay community. The response from the community shows just how valued this service is, and we want to keep growing and expanding so that more whānau can enjoy it.”

The CHB Toy Library is a resource that means a lot to us. We love being able to help local families access an affordable, sustainable way to keep tamariki entertained. By hiring toys on a rotating basis, families save money, reduce waste, and give their children the opportunity to explore new interests and develop skills through play.

We are also very proud of our dedicated team of volunteers who make it all happen. We’d love more people to join us and help keep this valuable service going. As Kerry said, “It’s our volunteers who are the heart of the Toy Library. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to provide this service to the community.”

If you missed our grand opening, don’t worry—the Toy Library will be open every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm. We’re also hoping to add more days and times as more volunteers come on board, keep an eye on our Facebook page for details!

With support from the Lottery Grants Board, ECCT, and Royston Health Trust, we’re working towards transforming our Northumberland Street premises into a community hub where families can easily access a range of support services, including the Toy Library.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer or want to learn more, please get in touch with us. We’d love to have you join our journey!
